Frequently asked questions
Who are you?
Guess. There are clues in my social media.
Who owns these songs?
They are machine generated, no-one owns the copyright to them.
What if I saw a line which looks familiar?
No surprise there. Just think of the number of well-known Christian hymns and choruses which begin with the line “Bless the Lord Oh my soul” but I would be interested if you saw distinct patterns either in words or music that appear to borrow too heavily from a copyrighted source.
Do you make any money from this?
Not at the moment. It’s just a fun hobby. I do this for my own education, edification and entertainment. I find the content created useful in my own personal devotions. Should you ever see that I suddenly start remastering all the songs I’ve curated as version 4, it will mean that I’m looking at projects which might have a commercial application.
What about the cost of generative AI?
Good question. A friendly chatbot informed me that it will cost a company like Suno upwards of 25 cents to create and store each song, depending on length and complexity. This isn’t just the cost of the energy involved. Whether this is good stewardship of our planet’s finite resources is an interesting question to deal with later.
Isn’t this just ‘promise box’ spirituality?
Another good question that deserves more thorough treatment elsewhere.
Isn’t there a danger you’ll spread heresy?
Absolutely! Because of the nature of the training data, it’s highly likely that the words thrown together by the model will convey ideas that are not supported by any rational interpretation of the Bible. Some of the suggested lyrics I have seen have been highly amusing, to say the least. If you see something that has been overlooked, feel free to drop me a line.
